Held at our newly renovated boutique and to kick off the racing season, we showcased ‘Savoir Faire’ our couture millinery collection for the 2016-2017 season. A select group of media, clients and friends were invited to an intimate soiree, where the newest collection was on display. Upon arrival, guests were greeted with Natalie’s favourite choice of French champagne, Champagne G.H.MUMM, with a charcuterie platter, sweet treats from Vaniye and macarons from Milse also on offer. Gorgeous flowers from Cartier For Flowers adorned the showroom as well as peeking out from gift bags. Adding to the bespoke experience, guests were invited to choose their favourite new style and have talented illustrator Rebecca ter Borg live sketch a portrait of them poised, wearing the hat.

Natalie Chan Presents: ‘Savoir Faire’- The Millinery Collection October 17 2016, 0 Comments

Savoir Faire’ is Natalie's latest couture millinery collection for the 2016-2017 season. Translated ‘Savoir-Faire’ means “capacity for appropriate action; especially: a polished sureness in social behaviour", and it is this innate sense of poise and etiquette know-how, which captured Natalie's attention when designing her latest range. This collection sees Chan create with her continued fascination of old world meets modern day- as always the pieces are imbued with a feminine romance, but look closer and observe the striking confidence within the styles.

The 'Alluring Muse' disc hat in nude

The 'Feeling Pretty and Witty' pillbox hat in navy

The 'Floral Delight' canotier in cream

The headwear shapes vary from petite headbands to button, pillbox and percher hats to oversized structural designs and with an effortless ease are adorned just so. Embellishments appear in the forms of deconstructed butterfly wings, charming silk lilies, clusters of leather chrysanthemums and silk organza folds. Throughout, a bold colour palette of classic ivory, black, french navy, dove grey, and nude plays its part in the collection, highlighted by pops of scarlet red and rose pink.

The 'Spring has Sprung' disc hat in dove grey

The 'A Certain Charm' peak shaped hat in cream

The 'My Heart's a Flutter' disc hat in red

The 'In the Moment' peak shaped disc hat in rose

The 'Starry Eyed' headband with veil in gold

All of the designs are made in Chan’s atelier according to artisanal techniques relevant to millinery production. Hat bases are blocked on wooden forms, before being assembled by hand; the featured embellishments too, are constructed by hand in favour of precious craftsmanship. The ‘Savoir-Faire’collection features exclusive designs for the races and social occasions, and is available for viewing in the boutique or online here. A personalised bespoke service is also on offer.

The 'Absolutely Resplendent' headband in silver

The 'Captivating Muse' hat in black

Stay tuned next for some images from the 'Savoir Faire’ launch held in the boutique.

Royal Ascot 2016-Looks we Love June 22 2016, 0 Comments

Racing season feels so far away for us here in New Zealand!

Which makes the annual Royal Ascot always such a joy to to view, and we absolutely loved searching through the gorgeous images of race attendees. The British are known for their love of wacky head wear of which there is an extensive archive of, should you choose to google search further, but today we publish a specially curated range of inspirational outfits we absolutely love. From demure to fashion forward in neutrals and amazing pops of colour, here is what we are crushing on right now..

Our favourite colour palette! We love these ladies colour co-ordinated outfits.

We here at Natalie Chan are always partial to pink, and think the Queen looks wonderful in this hue.

Stylist and Harper's Bazzaar contributor Martha Ward published a beautiful diary again this year, documenting her Royal Ascot outfits. Pairing chic dresses with detailed headpieces and carefully picked accessories, it was a joy to read everyday.

We think this chic day dress looks great with her ladylike accessories.

One more look from Martha, all images and her diary can be found here

We love this demure dress paired with a quirky headpiece.

Kate Middleton looking classically gorgeous as always in her Dolce & Gabbana dress and Jane Taylor hat.

Rachel Trevor-Morgan is a milliner from the UK and we love her chic monochromatic outfit.

We think this royal ascot attendee looks amazingly striking. Note the metal belt, slit arm cape and detailed headpiece.

Their smiles are contagious! We love these ladies outfits and the pop of colour in their most essential accessory!

A very dapper looking gentlemen with an equally as stylish counterpart, we love this duos style!

Our Favourites from the Met Gala 2016 May 07 2016, 0 Comments

The actress Zoe Saldana in Dolce and Gabanna. We love the textured feathers on the amazing skirt of this gown.

Image from Vogue

On Monday evening fashion's elite gathered at the Metropolitan Museum of Arts Costume Institute Gala in celebration of its newest exhibition 'Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology' exploring the relationship of handmade haute couture and machine-made fashion. We loved seeing attendees pay homage to this theme and here are our picks of the night...

The actress Brie Larson. We love the this retro futuristic look from the design duo at Proenza Schouler.

Image from Vogue

Actress and activist Emma Watson wore a gown designed by Calvin Klein with the help of Ecoage. Her sustainable 5 piece look is created from 3 fabrics woven from yarns made from recycled plastic bottles, and the pieces have been designed to be taken apart able to be worn again. What an inspiration-we would love seeing more of this in fashion!

View a short video on Emma's dress here

The actress Kate Bosworth dazzles in a gown and headpiece by Dolca and Gabbana.

Image from Vogue

The actress Blake Lively wears a stunning creation by British design house Burberry.

Image from Vanity Fair

The ever stunning Beyonce wore a latex gown sprinkled with crystal embellishments by Givenchy.

Image from Viva

The actress Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace. We thought this was a fabulous fusion of hand made couture and machine made fashion.

Image from Vogue

We loved model Karlie Kloss' gown and cape cover up both designed by Brandon Maxwell.

Image from Etonline

The model Karolina Kurkova wore a dress designed by Marchesa in conjunction with computing company IBM Watson. The fabric flowers on the gown featured LED lights within that would light up to certain colours depending on what people were saying about the Met Gala, Marchesa, IBM, and the dress itself on social media. Watson's Tone Analyzer read through and interpreted the tone of people's tweets, and would then pick a colour that corresponded to the general emotion. Rose signified joy, coral meant passion, aqua was excitement, lavender denoted curiosity, and butter indicated encouragement.

Another amazing standout of the night was the actress Claire Dane's stunning ballgown designed by Zac Posen (himself in the background). The gown was constructed in a specially made Gossamer fabric with fibre optic quality and in the dark would light up with the help of LED lights and 30 mini battery packs that were sewn into the lining.
